October 2026 release dates: eight confirmed launches, and why Steam shows three of them a day early

October 2026 has eight publisher-confirmed launches on our Release Radar, running from Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve on October 2 to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on October 23. We checked each one against the publisher’s own page on October 1, 2026, and then against Steam’s US store listing. Three of the eight read one day earlier on Steam than the publisher says.

The publisher’s date is the one on our Radar. Here is the month, and then the discrepancy.

The confirmed October dates

October 2 — Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. Bandai Namco’s US post of September 29 gives a worldwide launch on October 2, with early access already open for buyers of the higher editions.

October 6 — Gears of War: E-Day. Xbox Series X|S and PC through the Microsoft Store and Steam, in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on day one, per Xbox.

October 6 — Star Wars: Galactic Racer. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Publisher Secret Mode set the date on April 30 and prices the Standard Edition at $59.99; Fuse Games is the developer.

October 9 — Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen. Capcom’s Steam announcement of June 9 says it is “launching October 9th 2026” and that the Dark Arisen Expansion will also be sold as separate DLC to players who already own Dragon’s Dogma 2. Nintendo UK’s store lists the Nintendo Switch 2 version for the same day, written 09/10/2026 in day-first format, and PlayStation’s store page has both the full edition and the expansion up for pre-order on PS5. Those three — PC, PS5 and Switch 2 — are the versions we verified and the ones on the calendar entry.

October 13 — Planet Zoo 2. PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, at $49.99 for the Standard Edition, per Frontier Developments.

October 22 — Final Fantasy Resonance. Square Enix dates the PlayStation 5 version on PlayStation Blog, Nintendo’s US store lists the Switch 2 version for the same day at $49.99, and Steam’s listing matches. We have not checked the Xbox and original Switch listings ourselves, so the calendar entry carries only the three platforms we verified.

October 22 — Nintendo Switch Sports Resort. Nintendo Switch 2. Already on the Radar from our autumn calendar dispatch.

October 23 — Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Activision’s announcement says the game “releases on Friday, October 23, 2026 on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2,” and that it will not be available on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

Three dates that read a day early on Steam

When we queried Steam’s US storefront on October 1, it listed Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve for October 1, not October 2. It listed the Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Expansion for October 8, not October 9. And it listed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 for October 22, not October 23.

It is not an October-only pattern. Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered, which Koei Tecmo Europe dated for “1st October 2026,” shows September 30 on the same storefront. The other October titles we checked — Gears of War: E-Day, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, Planet Zoo 2 and Final Fantasy Resonance — match their publishers exactly.

Why: one launch moment, two calendar days

For one of the three, the publisher supplies the explanation. Bandai Namco Europe gives the Ace Combat 8 launch as “2nd October 2026 00:00AM CEST.” Midnight in Central European Summer Time is 6 p.m. Eastern and 3 p.m. Pacific on October 1. The game launches once, worldwide; the calendar day depends on where you are standing, and a US store page is standing in the Americas.

For Dark Arisen, Modern Warfare 4 and Dynasty Warriors 3, we have not found an unlock time in the publisher sources we read. A single global launch moment that falls on the previous day in US time zones would produce exactly what Steam shows, and that is our reading — but it is an inference, not something Capcom, Activision or Koei Tecmo state on those pages.

The practical point holds either way. If you are in the Americas, a publisher’s “October 9” may mean the evening of October 8 on PC. If you are planning around a date, check the store page in your own region instead of the headline.

Early access shifts the real start, too

Three of the month’s releases can be played before their listed dates by some buyers. Ace Combat 8 early access began September 29 for the Deluxe Edition and the Joker Flight Pack tiers, according to Bandai Namco Europe. Gears of War: E-Day gives Premium Edition players up to five days of early access from October 1, per Xbox. And Xbox’s page for Modern Warfare 4 lists Campaign Early Access from October 16 for pre-orders, a week ahead of launch.

How we will keep this current

Every date above is the publisher’s, linked to the page that states it, and each is now in Release Radar. If a publisher moves a date, we update the calendar entry and this page from the new primary source. Today’s own launch, Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition on PlayStation 5, is covered separately.
