Xbox survey asks Insiders how they'd react if Fallout, Elder Scrolls or Minecraft went console-exclusive
A survey sent to some Xbox Insiders, verified by Windows Central, asks how they would react if Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Doom, Diablo, PHYSINT or even Minecraft became exclusive to Xbox consoles. It is a survey, not an announcement: Microsoft has announced no such plan and has not commented.

Key points
- A survey shown to a subset of Xbox Insiders on October 13 asks how they would react if specific franchises became timed or full Xbox console exclusives, Windows Central reports.
- The franchises named are Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Doom, PHYSINT, Diablo and Minecraft. Windows Central says it verified the survey screens as real.
- A final hypothetical asks about every future Xbox-developed franchise except Call of Duty going console-exclusive, and says nothing would change on PC.
- It is a survey, not an announcement. Microsoft has announced no such plan and has not commented, as of 10:30 ART on October 15.
Xbox is asking some players a big hypothetical. A survey that appeared on October 13 for a subset of users in the Xbox Insider Program asks how they would react if Xbox-owned franchises became exclusive to Xbox consoles, Windows Central reports. A user sent the screens to the site, which says it “verified as real.” We have not seen the screenshots ourselves.
To be clear: this is a survey, not an announcement. Microsoft has not announced any plan to make these games exclusive, and we found no Microsoft comment as of 10:30 ART on October 15. Windows Central’s headline says Microsoft is “considering” the move; that framing is theirs, not ours.
What the survey asks
According to Windows Central, the survey asks, game by game, whether users would switch to Xbox if a franchise went timed or fully console-exclusive. Windows Central says the franchises include Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Doom, PHYSINT, Diablo and Minecraft. Of those, only the Fallout page and the all-franchise question have been quoted by other outlets.
Polygon quotes the Fallout page from a screenshot: “Imagine it was announced that all future title releases in the Fallout franchise will be console-exclusive to Xbox and no longer available on PlayStation or Nintendo. Existing Fallout titles would remain available where they are today. Nothing changes on PC with this announcement.”
A final question goes further. It reads, as quoted by Windows Central:
“Imagine it was announced that all future title releases from every XBOX-developed gaming franchise except Call of Duty will be console-exclusive to XBOX… For Minecraft only, existing titles would no longer be available for purchase on PlayStation or Nintendo consoles, and would not receive any new content updates. However, there is no impact to any of the existing titles or content you already own. Nothing changes on PC in this announcement.”
Polygon, which transcribed the survey screens, lists six answer options: “On an existing Xbox I own”; “On a new Xbox Series X|S I would decide to purchase”; “On a PC”; “I would skip playing because it would now be unavailable on my preferred console”; “Something else (please specify)”; and “Not interested in playing this exclusive content.” GameSpot also covers the survey.
How much to read into it
Companies survey players about scenarios they never pursue. Jez Corden, who reported the survey, writes himself that “surveys are just surveys, and it all might amount to nothing.” What it does show is that exclusivity is a question Xbox is putting to some of its own players.
We will update this story if Microsoft comments.
