Key points

  • Blizzard says Overwatch Season 5 "A Grim Doctrine" begins October 6. The post does not name a launch hour, so this brief prints none.
  • New Support hero Doctrine arrives with Eternal Scepter, bat-like drones, Infuse, and an Ultimate that gives allies Overhealth while limiting enemy max health. Blizzard calls it Overwatch's "vampire fantasy."
  • Watchpoint: Grímsvötn is a new Escort map set in an Icelandic volcanic fissure prison — "the first new Escort map in years," per Blizzard.
  • Sombra moves from Damage to Support, with Hotfix and Cyberspace plus a new Weaken status. Blizzard calls it one of the biggest changes it has made to an existing Hero.
  • Overwatch x Shadow Monarch (Solo Leveling) runs October 6–26, with skins pairing Genji, Reaper, Anran, Reinhardt and Lifeweaver to Solo Leveling characters. Credit on page: ©Solo Leveling Animation Partners.

Halloween season has a name and a clock. In a October 5, 2026, Overwatch news post, Blizzard Entertainment says Season 5 “A Grim Doctrine” begins October 6. The post does not name a launch hour, so this brief prints none.

Blizzard frames the season as the start of the final chapter of the Reign of Talon — the arc concluding, not Overwatch itself. Soft Join is off; this brief stays free.

Doctrine and Watchpoint: Grímsvötn

The headline arrival is Doctrine, a new Support hero Blizzard describes as a figure from Doomfist’s bloodied past, freed from the prison at Grímsvötn. Blizzard calls the kit Overwatch’s “vampire fantasy”: Eternal Scepter heals allies and damages enemies at mid-to-long range; bat-like mechanical drones add healing and attack speed; Infuse empowers his abilities; and his Ultimate gives allies Overhealth while limiting enemy maximum health.

The prison becomes a map. Watchpoint: Grímsvötn is a new Escort map set in an Icelandic volcanic fissure — once an Overwatch Watchpoint, later Helix-controlled, and now the scene of Doctrine’s escape. Blizzard calls it “the first new Escort map in years.”

Sombra to Support, Roadhog rework notes

Sombra moves from Damage to Support. Blizzard calls it one of the biggest changes it has ever made to an existing Hero. New tools include Hotfix, a targeted heal usable while Invisible without immediately breaking stealth, and Cyberspace, an area that heals allies while applying a new Weaken status that reduces enemy damage and healing effectiveness.

Roadhog gets a Scrap Gun that fires two bursts per volley and a new ability, Trash Compactor, that swallows incoming projectiles and returns an explosive shot scaled to what was absorbed. This brief invents no damage numbers or cooldowns — Blizzard’s post does not publish them.

Shadow Monarch, Mystery Madness, and the rest of the season

Overwatch x Shadow Monarch — the Solo Leveling collab — runs October 6–26. Blizzard lists Genji × Sung Jinwoo, Reaper × Igris, Anran × Cha Hae-In, Reinhardt × Iron, and Lifeweaver × Choi Jong-In, with an on-page credit to ©Solo Leveling Animation Partners.

Mystery Madness: Graveyard Games, a limited-time mode where death stacks random powers, runs October 6–November 2. Community Offerings can vote Ashe, Moira, or Winston into the mode as the roster grows toward 20.

Elsewhere in the same primary: Unvaulted Passes return revised Battle Passes from Seasons 1–15 (progress carries; one can run beside the current pass; Coins, XP Boosts, Mythic Prisms, Prestige Titles, and Mythic skins are excluded); Mythics include Dragon Shaoxia Wuyang and Treblemaker Lucio (first Lucio Mythic weapon); Tech Witches collection October 9–26; Team Drives October 29–31.

This is a season-open wire from Blizzard’s primary, not a patch-notes dump and not a verdict. No Release Radar row — seasons are not releases here.
