# ARC Raiders' PvE test starts tomorrow, and Embark says it may not stick

> Embark Studios opens a PvE matchmaking toggle in ARC Raiders from October 13, 09:00 UTC (06:00 ART) to October 20, 09:00 UTC. Embark is explicit that it may not work: the test "is not a promise" of a PvE mode, and the toggle is removed when it ends.

## Key points

- ARC Raiders' PvE matchmaking toggle test runs from October 13, 2026, 09:00 UTC (06:00 ART) to October 20, 09:00 UTC (06:00 ART), per Embark's October 12 post (11:00 CEST both ends).
- Embark says the test "is not a promise that there will be a PvE mode in the future." When it ends, the toggle is removed and matchmaking returns to normal.
- PvE servers have zero player-to-player damage and lower loot value; PvPvE sessions get slightly higher baseline loot during the test.
- Night Raid, Locked Gate, Hidden Bunker, Frigate and Redirection will not offer PvE as an option.

An extraction shooter is about to find out whether it can live without the shooting at other people. From **October 13, 09:00 UTC (06:00 ART)** to **October 20, 09:00 UTC (06:00 ART)**, *ARC Raiders* players can flip a **PvE matchmaking toggle** and queue into servers where Raiders can't hurt each other, [Embark Studios said on October 12](https://arcraiders.com/news/pve-toggle-what-to-know). Embark gives the window as 11:00 CEST on both ends.

The caveat comes first, because Embark puts it there too. "It's possible that this will not work," the studio wrote in its [September 24 post](https://arcraiders.com/news/pve-toggle-beta-test). "This test is not a promise that there will be a PvE mode in the future." When the week ends, the toggle is removed and matchmaking goes back to normal.

## What changes on PvE servers

Embark's October 12 list:

- **Zero player-to-player damage.** Stun and fire throwables don't affect other players; barricades and ziplines still work.
- **Lower overall loot value** on PvE servers. To balance the economy, PvPvE sessions get **slightly higher baseline loot** during the test.
- **No squad separation priority**, so solos, duos and trios meet more often.
- **Excluded conditions:** Night Raid, Locked Gate, Hidden Bunker, Frigate and, new in this post, Redirection.
- **ARC still hunts the downed.** After an eight-second grace period, ARC enemies may re-acquire a downed player who moves.
- Matchmaking may be slower in low-population regions and quiet hours. PvE play doesn't touch your PvPvE matchmaking rating.

Embark says it will send a survey after the test.

## Why Embark is testing it

Embark's own numbers explain the bet. By its count, **37%** of players are friendly co-op players, a group that "has grown consistently since launch"; **27%** are mixed; and **34%** are pure PvP, a group that has stayed stable. **51%** of surveyed players said they want a dedicated PvE option. Embark's executive producer, Aleks, also notes the game began seven years ago as a PvE co-op raid game before it was reset into PvPvE, and that a toggle could "reduce some of the tension that the game was built around."

The test lands with the game busy again. After the Frozen Trail update on October 8 and a free-to-play window from October 8 to 12, *ARC Raiders* hit a 24-hour Steam peak of **185,443** players, its highest since March, per [SteamCharts](https://steamcharts.com/app/1808500). Part of that is the free weekend. Embark engineer Leon San José Larsson, quoted by [GamesRadar](https://www.gamesradar.com/games/third-person-shooter/as-arc-raiders-sees-steam-player-count-surge-to-185-000-for-the-first-time-in-7-months-embark-dev-knows-it-wont-last-forever/), put it plainly: "It won't last forever, of course."

What to watch: queue times on both sides of the toggle, and what Embark's post-test findings say about a PvE mode that, for now, is only a test.

## Questions and answers

**When does the ARC Raiders PvE test start and end?**
Embark says it runs from October 13 (11:00 CEST) to October 20 (11:00 CEST), 2026. That is 09:00 UTC, or 06:00 in Argentina (ART), on both days.

**Is ARC Raiders getting a permanent PvE mode?**
Not confirmed. Embark says "It's possible that this will not work" and that the test "is not a promise that there will be a PvE mode in the future." The toggle is removed when the test ends.

**Does playing PvE affect my PvPvE matchmaking rating?**
No. Embark says your PvPvE matchmaking rating is not affected while playing PvE sessions.
