## Key points

- NC launched AION 2 worldwide on October 5, 2026, free to play on PC through Steam and PURPLE, NC's own platform.
- NC set the launch for 6:00 a.m. PDT / 15:00 CEST, which is 10:00 a.m. in Argentina, and posted "AION 2 is live!" on Steam at that hour.
- The launch ends the paid Advanced Access period that began September 30. On Steam, the game is listed for Windows only, with NC as developer and publisher.
- We could not read a launch-day player count from SteamDB, so this brief prints none. The 171,530 Steam peak reported during Advanced Access counts Steam only and leaves out PURPLE.
- The October 5, 2026, PC launch is now on the Release Radar.

The paywall is gone. **NC** launched *AION 2* worldwide on **October 5, 2026**, and it is **free to play on PC** through **Steam** and **PURPLE**, NC's own launcher, according to [NC's launch release](https://www.gamespress.com/NCS-EPIC-MMORPG-AION-2-LAUNCHES-ON-STEAM-AND-PURPLE-TO-A-GLOBAL-AUDIEN). NC set the clock in a Steam post titled ["AION 2 Will Launch On Time"](https://steamstore-a.akamaihd.net/news/externalpost/steam_community_announcements/1845383656393385): **6:00 a.m. PDT / 15:00 CEST**, which is **10:00 a.m. in Argentina**. At that hour, NC posted ["AION 2 is live!"](https://steamstore-a.akamaihd.net/news/externalpost/steam_community_announcements/1845383656393412).

## From paid head start to free launch

Today's launch replaces a paid window. NC opened Early Access on **September 30**, and Inven Global and PCGamesN describe it as a head start for Founder's Pack buyers. NC's [maintenance notice](https://steamstore-a.akamaihd.net/news/externalpost/steam_community_announcements/1845383656391109) for the night of October 4 summed up the switch in two lines: "Advanced Access period ends. Commercial launch begins." That maintenance began at 22:00 PDT on October 4 and was scheduled for **8 hours**, with login unavailable. Play opened at NC's 6:00 a.m. PDT launch time, not when the maintenance started.

The [Steam store record](https://store.steampowered.com/app/3393110/AION_2/) (app 3393110) now shows the game as released, **free**, and **Windows only**. Mac and Linux are not supported, and NC calls *AION 2* a game "created specifically for PC." Steam lists the studio as **NC**, and the press release calls the company "NC (formerly NCSOFT)." NC says the global version has servers in North America, South America, Europe and Japan, and text in eight languages, including Spanish and Portuguese.

## The numbers we are not printing

SteamDB blocked our request on launch day, so this brief has **no launch-day concurrent player count**. During paid Advanced Access, [Inven Global](https://www.invenglobal.com/articles/26680/aion-2-hits-170000-peak-concurrent-steam-players-tops-global-top-sellers-chart), citing SteamDB, reported a Steam peak of **171,530** on September 30, and [PCGamesN](https://www.pcgamesn.com/aion-2/launch-registration-rewards-extended) put it at "over 171,000." That figure counts **Steam only**. It does not include PURPLE, and it is not today's free-launch audience. NC's own release says *AION 2* reached number one on Steam's global top-sellers chart in more than 10 regions when Early Access began. That chart claim is NC's, not ours.

This is a launch wire, not a verdict. Our consensus read on *AION 2* waits until critics have played the free game.
